Newborn eyes' care

 Newborn's EYES' Care

Every mother should provide serious care about infant’s eyes, skin and umbilical cord. An Infant is totally unable to care its body itself so; it is a duty of the mother to care it by all means, properly. If there is a pus/purulent discharge from the eyes, you should contact a Doctor, first.
In all the Hospitals, Doctors generally provide an antibiotic ointment named- ‘Tetracycline Ointment’, to remove baby’s eyes’ problems.

On the other hand, if no doctor or nurse available, you can apply ‘Tetracycline Ointment’ without fear. This ointment can be used even for normal eyes as a preventive, so even in doubt as to whether pus, it could be given. This antibiotic ointment’ is easily available in the market.

How to put Ointment in the eyes of the baby:

  • Gently pull the baby’s lower eyelid down.
  • Squeeze a thin line of ointment moving from the inside corner to the outside of the eyes.
  • Don’t touch the baby’s eye with the tip of the tube. If the tube touches the baby’s eyes, it should not be used again.
  • If the eyes are swollen with pus, then put the ointment two times a day for five days.
If you don’t see any Improvement within three days, contact the Doctor for advance treatment.
